Fully certified for hazardous areas

The Solar iWAP XN3 brings Extronics’ proven wireless enclosure technology into off-grid environments. By integrating an Ex-certified solar panel and 12.8V LiFePO₄ rechargeable battery,
the system delivers reliable, autonomous power for IoT gateways, and communication devices. Designed for Zone 2 and Division 2 hazardous areas, the Solar iWAP XN3 enables continuous operation in remote sites where traditional power is not available.

The system is designed to provide a 36-hour battery capacity without sunshine. Under normal operating load, the battery requires approximately 7 days to fully recharge. Solar energy availability is calculated based on the expected hours of sunlight received by an optimally angled PV surface during the worst months of the year.

Your choice of wireless technology

The Solar iWAP XN3 is a highly flexible, solar-powered wireless enclosure system designed for Zone 2 and Division 2 hazardous areas. It can be configured to support a wide range of low-power wireless devices, including LTE routers, IoT gateways, and other IIoT devices.

The system is powered by an Ex-certified 30 W solar photovoltaic module (with support for up to two 30 W panels in parallel) and an internal 12.8 V LiFePO₄ rechargeable battery (15 Ah or 20 Ah options), providing reliable autonomous operation in off-grid locations.

Use standard, non-certified antennas

The Solar iWAP XN3 incorporates Extronics’ iSOLATE intrinsically safe RF technology, providing galvanically isolated, intrinsically safe RF outputs via standard N-type connectors. This allows the use of simple apparatus antennas, giving greater flexibility, optimised RF performance, and reduced system cost.

It also means you can easily connect or disconnect antennas by hand, with no need for special tools, and you don’t need to power down the unit or get a hot work permit either.

If you’re not sure what simple apparatus antennas are, we’re happy to assist. Every antenna in our iANT2xx range has already been evaluated by our engineers and meets all the requirements for simple apparatus.

Effective use of space

The Solar iWAP XN3 enclosure integrates the solar controller, rechargeable battery, wireless device, and RF isolation into a compact, high-integrity chassis. Two standard enclosure sizes are available.

Easy installation and low maintenance

Designed for simple deployment in remote locations, the Solar iWAP XN3 supports pole mounting via a stainless-steel bracket and includes optional pre-terminated armoured interconnection kits to reduce installation time on site.

Thermally engineered

The Solar iWAP XN3 features an extruded aluminium enclosure with integral cooling fins, which act as heat sinks to manage internal temperatures. The white epoxy powder-coated finish reduces solar heat gain, making the system suitable for deployment in high ambient temperatures from –40 °C to +60 °C, subject to the installed wireless device

Highly rugged

Manufactured from marine-grade, copper-free aluminium alloy and finished with a durable epoxy powder coating, the Solar iWAP XN3 is built for long-term outdoor operation in harsh industrial environments. With IP66 and NEMA 4 ratings, it is well protected against dust, water ingress, and extreme weather conditions.
