Medco Energi operates multiple offshore oil and gas assets across Southeast Asia, where maintaining reliable electrical infrastructure is fundamental to safe and efficient operations. Offshore well head platforms operate in remote, hazardous environments where access to conventional infrastructure is limited. Electrical systems must be able to deliver continuous uninterruptible power to support monitoring, control, and safety equipment. Even brief periods of power outage can disrupt critical systems, increase operational risk, and compromise workforce safety.

Requirements for A New Power Solution

Medco Energi required an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) solution capable of operating independently from traditional generation methods. The system needed to:

• Provide stable battery power during outages and fluctuations
• Support long term operation with minimal maintenance
• Integrate a renewable power source to support sustainability objectives
• Operate reliably in hazardous offshore conditions.

The goal was not only to ensure continuity of supply, but to also transition toward clean energy without sacrificing safety or performance.

Extronics’ Solar Powered UPS Solution

Extronics designed and supplied an Ex solar powered UPS solution engineered specifically for offshore hazardous areas to meet Medco Energi’s requirements. The system combined high-efficiency solar panels with intelligent energy storage, delivering a resilient uninterruptible power supply that operates independently of fossil-fuel-based generation. By deploying an Ex solar powered USP solution, Medco Energi was able to improve the reliability of its offshore well head platforms and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources.
