Manchester, UK. 21st April 2014. Extronics, a leading designer and manufacturer of intrinsically safe and explosion proof equipment has been honoured with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2014 in the International Trade Category. Extronics has received the accolade, which is the highest official award for business success in the UK, in recognition of achieving substantial overseas sales growth.

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the highest award that can be given to any UK business. It recognises a company’s contribution to UK exports but also looks at its role within the local community, environmental impact and the quality of its relationships with suppliers, partners, employees and customers.
The Queen’s Award is the most prestigious corporate achievement that any UK business can attain and is a form of approval that shows how successful a business has become.
Presentation of the Queen’s Award
In July the Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, Mr David Briggs MBE, attended Extronics H.Q. in Middlewich, Cheshire to present Managing Director, John Hartley, and Sales Director, Paul Lazor, with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade. The award recognises the successful implementation of a business strategy over the last six years to focus on export markets, particularly with the company’s wireless technology products. From virtually no export sales in 2008, the company has grown this aspect of its business with over 50% of all sales now being generated from overseas trade in 2013.
Delighted to receive Royal recognition John said: “For the past six years we have focused on developing both products and sales channels that provide real advantages for our customers. This award is a tremendous achievement and one which reflects great credit on both our employees and our Sales Partners.”
Invitation to Buckingham Palace
In addition to the presentation at Extronics, John Hartley and Paul Lazor were invited to a special reception at Buckingham Palace, where the winners of this prestigious award would be presented to HM The Queen. The reception was held in the Palace’s magnificent ballroom, the largest and grandest of the 755 rooms, normally used for investitures and state banquets.
How the awards are judged
The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are awarded to businesses for outstanding achievement in International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development. Each category has a separate judging panel that follows a thorough procedure. The individual judging panels make their decisions on the merits of business, against the specific award criteria and then pass their recommendations to the Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee for final assessment.
What the award means for Extronics
This award is a tremendous accolade and demonstrates Extronics commitment to quality, innovation and growing the business internationally. Winning this prestigious award means that customers will be able to recognise immediately that our products and business have been given the Royal stamp of approval, and that we are recognised as a company of excellence. The Queen’s Award Emblem will be prominently displayed throughout the company to signify our commitment to maintaining the standard and quality for which the UK is rightly recognised.
